Inviting Young Adults to Our Church Community
In a world that’s constantly changing, it’s so easy for young adults to drift away from their faith and disconnect from Christian Churches. According to a Lifeway Research study, two-thirds of young adults who attended church regularly as a teenager (66 percent) dropped out as they transitioned into adulthood.
So, why do young people not go to church anymore? Unfortunately, there are many distractions in life keeping young adults away from church. Some examples may include increased independence, getting a driver’s license, having a job, or going through a major life change. If you’re a young adult seeking connection and community, here are four impactful ways Worship Center can help you in your faith journey!
1. Join Our TLR Community
We believe that every young adult needs a safe and inviting space to grow and deepen their faith with God. If you find yourself searching churches near me or churches for young adults near me, The Living Room (TLR) is a great community in Lancaster County for young adults to come and grow together. TLR is the vibrant young adult ministry of Worship Center for people ages 18-30.
The mission of TLR is quite simple: Pursue Jesus, Live in Community, and Be Bold and Courageous. TLR meets every Tuesday night at 7:15pm in the SMC Building Room at Worship Center. Young adults, we invite you to come out and join us!
TLR is in the middle of a series on the Holy Spirit starting from July and ending the first week of August. Did you miss the recent TLR Tuesday night service? No problem! Catch up here on all our past messages.
2. Build Meaningful Relationships
Christian churches are great for nurturing spiritual growth, but what if you want to take things a step further and grow deeper in faith and community? As young adults, one of the best ways to get involved at TLR is to take the TLR Foundations Class.
The Foundations Class will give you the foundational principles and concepts needed to grow as a believer, own your story, and understand the power of the gospel for yourself. The class will also provide various ways for you to build meaningful relationships within your small group. Here’s a bonus! The class also qualifies as a prerequisite to serving on the TLR leadership team.
Becoming a TLR Leader
Being part of the TLR Lead Team is a fun and exciting way to encourage, equip, and develop other leaders. We believe that as you lead, you will grow more as a follower of Jesus Christ. We humbly ask that all prospective leaders take the TLR Foundations Class before becoming a TLR leader. Click here to read through the TLR Guidelines!
Interact Groups
Another way to build stronger connections with other people is to join a TLR Interact Group! Interact Groups provide a caring environment where young adults can go deeper with God and connect with others on Tuesday nights. Young adults, please know that you are not alone! We hope that these groups will provide a safe place for you to discover your next steps in following Jesus and growing in community.
3. Embrace The Essentials and The Vitals
Along with building up meaningful relationships, two important things that we greatly value at TLR are The Essentials and The Vitals.
In the same way you need vitamins to live healthy and grow your body, the essentials and vitals are daily “vitamins” for developing and sustaining a spiritual connection with the Lord.
At TLR, we want to lead young adults to grow as followers of Jesus Christ who love God and love people by challenging them to pursue Jesus, live in community, and be bold and courageous.
The Essentials are key to creating and living in community:
Connect
Care
Challenge to Grow
Celebrate
The Vitals are key to connecting in conversation and doing life with another person:
How are you and God doing?
How are you doing with those who influence you?
How are you doing with those you influence?
- Exciting Events Happening At TLR
We have so many opportunities and events available for you to get involved and serve here at TLR. Here are just a few coming up:
Oh, Taste and See!
Mark your calendar for August 15 at 7pm, rain or shine! All Young Adults ages 18-30 are invited to The Living Room’s biggest event of the year, Oh Taste and See! The purpose of this event is to spend time as a community celebrating everything that the Lord is doing in both our personal lives and community of young adults!
Come out and experience a special night filled with worship, testimonies, and free food! Some of our vendors will include Penny’s Ice Cream, Auntie Anne’s, Taylor Chip Cookies, and much more! Last year, we had 500+ young adults attend this event!
It’s an all-hands-on-deck type event, and a great opportunity for young adults to invite friends to church. If you would like to serve at one or the biggest Tuesday nights of the year, fill out the form here!
TLR Baptism
Our next baptism is happening August 29 at The Living Room! Water baptism is an exciting and biblical way to tell the world that you have decided to live for Jesus! TLR Internship
Looking to challenge yourself to grow and deepen your relationship with Christ? Join us this summer from September 19-November 21 for the TLR internship! We believe that Biblical leadership starts with serving, therefore we provide various opportunities to serve in different departments throughout the church. Our goal is that you would grow in your personal relationship with the Lord first, while also being challenged to grow in your ability to lead and serve others well. The deadline to sign up for the internship is September 6. We’d love to have you join our team!
NYSUM Trip
Our annual NYSUM trip is back! Join our team to visit New York City, November 10-12. The team will serve Thanksgiving meals to people experiencing homelessness in NYC. This trip is always an important highlight for people and a great opportunity for a small group or family. The cost for the trip is $395 and the deadline to register with a $200 deposit is October 17, 2023. Click here for more information!
Are You A Young Adult Seeking Connection?
As young adults, we understand that you might have a lot of questions about where you fit in the body of Christ and within your church community.
As a church, we would like to welcome and extend an open invitation to any young adult who wants to be part of a church community that makes them feel valued, heard, and inspired along their spiritual journey. At TLR, you’ll find a safe place where you can grow steadily in faith, build meaningful connections, and make a positive impact in the world.
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:10-12
So, let’s journey together as we support each other and encourage one another along the way. We can’t wait to meet you and, together, discover what it means to become more like Jesus!
