Serving In Kenya With Our Global Partners
A couple of weeks ago, Heather and Beau Bivins and I visited Worship Center Global Partners, Jonah and Consolata Bedan, and Roger and Dorothy Godfrey-Dulo in Kenya. Our time together was filled with meeting their ministry partners, leadership teams, churches, and families.
Jonah and Consolata, their son and grandson, met us at the airport when we landed. We hopped in a van with them and drove for about 2 hours to one of the churches and Christian schools they oversee. The school is called Christian Outreach Academy, and a lovely and very passionate lady named Susan runs it. She cares for the children and orphans so well, and she runs an incredible ministry.
On Sunday, we went with Jonah and Consolata to visit more churches and church leaders. We visited their ministry center called Harvest Conference Centre. Jonah, Consolata, and their team run their Bible schools out of this center from April to October. They are limited in space and want to build another building to house more students. The three bedrooms they do have are small and full of bunk beds! Their next Bible school has 20-30 students and will start in April.
Jonah and Consolata have a solid and fun leadership team, which Consolata lovingly calls ‘The Besties.’ This team travels with Jonah to minister and visit churches in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Congo, and Tanzania. They share the responsibilities of preaching, teaching, and caring for the 500 churches Jonah and Consolata oversee. They are doing incredible work in Africa, and Jonah is still just as full of vision and passion as ever.
Next, we visited Roger and Dorothy in Kisumu and Alendu. They are seeing substantial improvement in elementary schools with a new learning curriculum they are implementing in government-run schools.
The government fully supports their new program, and the bottom-producing schools are now in the top 5% of schools in their area. They have a wonderful team of leaders who are training teachers in this new curriculum, and these leaders ride on motorbikes through muddy and washed-out roads to make sure the new curriculum is implemented correctly in the schools. The students in their programs are thriving.
We also got to spend two days in the village, where we saw their water project, fencing project, and the sustainable farm they run, which provides jobs for the community and internship programs for young adults.
Dorothy’s vision and administrative skills — combined with Roger’s compassion and gentleness — make them a dynamic team that shares the Gospel and brings life change to Kenya!
