Where does a Leader take their needs?
Leaders are people too, and they have needs just like anyone else. So, where does a Leader take their needs?
Ideally, a Leader needs to grow their own Small Group so that vulnerability and real sharing are vital parts of the Group’s culture. However, I understand that it is not always our reality.
Admittedly, there are times when sharing your needs goes beyond sharing with a spouse, friend, or Small Group. There are times when an outside voice is needed. You may want to seek out someone you admire and ask them out for a lunch that you pay for. During that lunch, you can discern if this is a person whom you can share deeper things with. If that goes well, ask if they would be willing to be a sounding board for you occasionally.
Your situation may go beyond a non-professional mentor/coach. You may need to set up a session with a Counselor if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or some other life-controlling issue. Brad Aldrich or I can be consulted about a professional Christian Counselor who may fit your situation, and the church may be able to help offset those costs.
Above all, don’t hide or let your stuff go underground. It will manifest, and when not dealt with early, can have some life-altering results.
“But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
It has been said around Worship Center, “Don’t do life alone”, and there is an even stronger call out for Leaders, “Don’t lead alone”!
