The Piercing Power of the Words

Joy Landis   -

In Hebrews 4:12, Paul calls us to enter God’s rest by exercising obedient faith through Jesus Christ and the power of the Words – God’s Word.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12).

Sometimes, the power of words that come out of our human mouths will shock you! What’s worse is when the spoken words drift toward malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander.

Proverbs 18:20-21 reminds us that speaking wise words can satisfy like a good meal. Depending on how you use the words, the power of the tongue can also bring life or death.

As the power of words lie in the power of the tongue, how do we speak life and not death over our circumstances? Whose words have value? Whose words can be trusted?

THE POWER OF THE WORDS FROM THE SCRIPTURES

When we study the Bible, we can find comfort and great value in the power of the words. God’s Word is filled with so much knowledge and wisdom that can help us in whatever season we’re in.  When we fail to know the power of the words for ourselves, there is an enemy who knows the value of the Scripture’s power and uses it against us as deception.

Like the Psalmist suggests, it’s very important to hide the Word of God in our hearts, so we do not fall to sin or deception (Psalm 119:11). Knowing God’s Word can help us to keep our thoughts and hearts pure and walk in holiness.

In addition to Hebrews 4:12, there are so many powerful scriptures that cover the importance of knowing God’s Word:

– God’s Word is alive and powerful (Hebrews 4:12).

– God’s Word is true (Proverbs 30:5-6).

– God’s Word is inspired by God (Spirit-Breathed) (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

– God’s Word corrects and teaches us (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

– God’s Word is lamp unto our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105).

In the wilderness when Jesus was tempted by the enemy, he also quoted powerful scriptures saying, “You must not test the LORD your God.” Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him.’” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11).

HOW TO USE THE POWER OF THE WORDS

We get it, the power of the words is very powerful! But what’s the use of that power if you don’t know how to properly use it to change your life.
