Godly Wisdom – Pt 3

A trigger is any word, action, thought, interaction, or experience that elicits or provokes an overwhelming negative emotional response.

1. What if triggers actually revealed what needed to be healed?

Proverbs 20:5 (NIV)

The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out.

– A wise person has insight and understanding of what is going on inside of them.

2. Emotional sore spots are hurts from the past revealed through experiences in the present.

3. Triggers are a sign that there’s more healing to be received.

– Thoughts lead to feelings which lead to behaviors.

John 8:32 (NIV)

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

2 Corinthians 10:5b (NIV)

we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Rather than see TRIGGERS as something to be avoided, we can lean into them as lessons to be learned. Hurts that need to be healed. Lies that need to be uprooted and drawn out and replaced with truth.

COMMUNITY GROUP MEETING OUTLINE

Where your faith intersects with real life!

Reconnect:

Each person shares a recent high and low from their life.

Explore:

Review the message notes.

Big Idea: Triggers REVEAL the things that need to be HEALED in our lives.

Consider:

Choose one or two questions for your Group to discuss as time allows.

▶ Read Proverbs 20:5. Do you lean more towards avoiding triggers at all cost or are you ok with going deeper and drawing out to learn from them and heal? Why do you think that is?

▶ Share an experience of a past hurt that was healed in your life and how it helped you move forward.

▶ Read John 8:32. Call out some of the lies that the enemy likes to plant in our lives and show how you could replace them with a truth. It can be a word, phrase, or Bible verse.

Activate:

Spend a moment in silence to consider your response, then share your decision with the Group.

Read 2 Corinthians 10:5. Think about a recent trigger that brought on a negative thought or response. Lean in and ask the Holy Spirit what you need to learn from it and what needs to be healed.

Prayer:

Thank God for the highs and lift up the lows.

Pray for each other for healing and that we would be rooted in God’s truth.
